Reflection on the Monk Mindset & Quote
Mother Teresa did not start out as Mother Teresa.
For 20 years, “Sister Teresa” was a teacher and school administrator in a middle class school in Calcutta with a religious community called the Sisters of Loretto.
Daily she walked by people dying in the streets and starving for food – and love. One day, she went on her day off to bring them comfort. Then she did this for a few hours every week. She couldn’t help the millions of suffering people in Calcutta. But she could help a few each week.
She did this for years in secret. Then, she had a spiritual experience in which she felt called to do this work full time – for the rest of her life.
After two years of petitioning, she was granted permission to found the Missionaries of Charity, whose mission would be to serve the poorest of the poor while themselves also living in poverty.
And so “Mother Teresa” was born.
Put It Into Practice This Week
Who is one person (just one) on the fringes of your life with whom you can be more loving, present, or giving?
Maybe it's the person cleaning the street, a distant relative, a forgotten friend…
Bring this person to mind and make a personal resolution to do one small act of love or kindness to that person THIS WEEK.
